The Head of Compliance will run an independent compliance function that reports to the Board Audit Committee, and is independent of the Managing Director and the executive management whose activities it oversees. It will ensure that enza Egypt, its employees, agents and outsourced providers meet their legal and regulatory obligations, including anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CFT), and will act as the designated AML/CFT compliance officer.

The ideal candidate is a practical compliance leader who holds a firm line on what matters.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Compliance Plan & Regulatory Change
  • Prepare the annual compliance plan for Audit Committee approval, and report to the Audit Committee every six months and then to the Board
  • Run a mechanism to review changes in law and regulation, assess their impact, and inform the Audit Committee, Board and relevant staff
  1. AML/CFT & Financial Crime
  • Oversee the AML/CFT programme and verify compliance with financial crime regulations, including monitoring and sanctions screening
  • Review and report suspicious transactions to the Egyptian Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Combating Unit (MLCU) within required timelines
  1. Verification & Monitoring
  • Verify that the institution, its employees, agents and outsourced providers comply with applicable laws, regulations and supervisory requirements
  • Test the adequacy of compliance controls, and monitor corrective actions through to closure
  • Give compliance sign-off on new products, services and partners before launch
  1. Whistleblowing & Regulator Engagement
  • Maintain a mechanism for reporting violations and illegal practices, investigate cases, and notify the CBE directly if the institution fails to address them
  • Act as the main contact for the CBE on compliance matters, including inspections and notifications
  • Oversee data protection, consumer protection and card scheme compliance with the relevant teams
  1. Culture & Team
  • Make sure employees understand and follow applicable laws and regulatory requirements
  • Build and lead the compliance team with adequate resources and unrestricted access to records

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in law, finance or a related discipline. A compliance or AML qualification (ICA, ACAMS CAMS or equivalent) is preferred
  • At least 10 years in compliance, including 5 or more in banking, payments or fintech, with experience leading a compliance function
  • Strong knowledge of Egypt’s AML/CFT law and CBE regulation of payment service providers
  • Practical experience running an AML/CFT programme, filing suspicious transaction reports and dealing with the CBE
  • Fluent Arabic and English, written and spoken
  • Meets the CBE fit and proper criteria (integrity, competence, sound financial standing and independence), and will complete the CBE nomination forms and any interview
  • No conflicting executive or business role

Why join enza?

  • Build a regulated risk function, reporting to the Board Risk Committee
  • Work with a senior team that treats risk as a business discipline
  • Be part of an ambitious fintech transforming Africa’s payments landscape
