Who We Are

At IPID, we're building trust in global payments. Our account verification solutions help financial institutions, payment service providers, and enterprises verify account ownership before payments are sent, reducing fraud, improving compliance, and helping money reach the right recipient with confidence.

Founded by industry veterans from organisations including SWIFT and Thomson Reuters, IPID combines deep payments expertise with modern technology to help make global payments safer, simpler, and more reliable. As we continue to grow, we're looking for talented people who enjoy solving meaningful problems and want to make a visible impact in a fast-moving global fintech.

The Opportunity

This is our first permanent in-house Legal hire, so you'll have real ownership from day one. Working closely with the COO, leadership and teams across the business, you'll be the first call when the legal answer isn't obvious, whether that's a difficult commercial negotiation, a new product, privacy and data, governance, regulation, or something we haven't encountered before. We want someone who gets underneath the legal question, understands what the business is trying to achieve and helps us find a sensible way forward.

It's also a hands-on role. There isn't a junior Legal team behind you, so you'll need to enjoy doing the work as much as advising on it: getting into the detail, drafting, negotiating, figuring things out and bringing in external expertise when it genuinely adds value. As the needs of an international fintech evolve, the role will evolve with them. We care less about title than the quality of your judgement, your commercial instinct, your curiosity and your willingness to roll up your sleeves and get things done.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Serve as the first point of contact for legal matters, providing practical, commercially focused advice across commercial, product, corporate, regulatory, privacy, data governance and other business matters.
  • Partner with leaders and cross-functional teams on complex or unfamiliar legal questions, balancing legal and commercial considerations and providing clear recommendations.
  • Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including complex, non-standard and cross-jurisdictional arrangements.
  • Advise on the legal implications of new products, services and business models, identifying regulatory, contractual, privacy and data considerations early and helping teams find commercially workable paths forward.
  • Lead day-to-day privacy, data protection and data governance advice, including matters relating to data use, sharing, product design and commercial arrangements.
  • Advise on corporate governance and entity matters across the jurisdictions in which the company operates, coordinating required actions and specialist support where appropriate.
  • Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments, translating changes into clear business implications and practical actions.
  • Identify and assess material legal risks, applying sound judgement to recommend proportionate mitigation while enabling the business to move forward.
  • Determine which matters can be handled in-house and when specialist external advice is required; where external counsel is engaged, own the matter internally by setting the brief, managing scope and translating advice into business action.
  • Develop and improve practical legal templates, playbooks, guidance and ways of working that raise quality, enable consistency and reduce unnecessary reliance on external counsel.

Requirements

What We're Looking For

  • Qualified lawyer in a relevant jurisdiction, with a strong corporate and commercial law foundation
  • Typically 8+ years' relevant post-qualification experience, with substantial in-house experience and ownership of complex matters
  • Broad legal expertise across commercial, product, corporate, regulatory, privacy and data matters
  • Strong commercial judgement, balancing legal risk with business objectives to give clear, pragmatic advice
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills, including complex and cross-jurisdictional commercial agreements
  • Experience advising Product and Technology teams on new products, services or business models
  • Strong working knowledge of privacy, data protection and data governance
  • Breadth and confidence to be the business's first point of legal advice, knowing when specialist external counsel is genuinely needed
  • Credibility with senior stakeholders, able to simplify complexity, challenge constructively and influence commercial decisions
  • High ownership and independence, comfortable navigating ambiguity and establishing practical approaches to unfamiliar problems
  • Curious and tech-forward, with the openness and judgement to use AI and emerging technologies to work more effectively

Good-to-have Requirements

  • Experience in payments, fintech, banking, cryptocurrency or digital assets
  • Combination of international firm practice training and substantive in-house experience
  • Practical experience with US legal and regulatory matters, or working closely with US businesses, customers and counterparties
  • Experience working across multiple jurisdictions
  • Additional language capabilities beyond English
