Group Financial Controller
Accounting & Finance
Nairobi, Kenya
Group Financial Controller
US Entity & Group Consolidation
Reports to: Group CFO
Location: Nairobi (hybrid)
Role Purpose
Power Financial Wellness is seeking a Group Financial Controller to own the group’s reporting engine across a multi-entity fintech: a Delaware parent (PFW Inc.) over operating entities in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and India, plus partnership and JV markets across Africa. This role owns the US parent-entity accounting, the monthly multi-entity consolidation and intercompany, and — critically — the accurate and complete booking of JV and partnership revenue. You will be the person who makes the numbers come together correctly each month across every entity, working directly with the Group CFO and CEO.
This is a hands-on, high-ownership role at the center of a lean finance team, with real ownership from day one as the group scales through Series A and beyond. Because the team is deliberately lean, the role is broad — beyond the reporting core it takes on planning, cash-flow and treasury coordination, with support from the CFO.
You will partner with — but not manage — the country finance managers (Kenya, Uganda) and accountants (Tanzania, Rwanda) and our outsourced India provider, collating their submissions on the group timetable. You report to the Group CFO, which keeps sign-off on the consolidated and US numbers independent of any single country.
Key Responsibilities
US Entity & Parent-Company Close
- Own PFW Inc. (Delaware) accounting end-to-end — booking intercompany funding, holding-company costs and accruals, and running US payments.
- Keep the parent ledger tidy and audit-ready, with clear working papers.
JV & Partnership Revenue
- Own the accurate and complete booking of JV and partnership revenue and income across the group — with lenders, Sacco’s, banks, and other partners — recognized in the right entity, period, and account.
- Reconcile partner statements and settlement data to the ledger and resolve differences, so revenue and revenue-share are correctly recorded; maintain clear audit trails for every arrangement.
- Act as the central reporting home for partnership and JV markets where the group serves customers but has no local entity.
Group Consolidation & Reporting
- Run the monthly group consolidation — collating entity submissions into the consolidated income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow.
- Own intercompany and eliminations, foreign-currency translation, and reconciling intercompany balances so they clear cleanly across entities.
- Help prepare the monthly board and investor pack — group KPIs, revenue mix, cash, burn and runway — and maintain robust reconciliations for group cash, the loan book, and third-party debt.
Product-Line Reporting
- Maintain group reporting by product line — Pay, Borrow, Save, and Insurance / Protect — tracking revenue, margin and KPIs, and standing up reporting for each new product from launch (chart-of-accounts mapping, recognition treatment, disclosures).
Close, Audit, & Series A
- Run the group month-end close to a fixed timetable, hit deadlines, and help tighten the calendar over time.
- Prepare supporting schedules and evidence for the annual group and entity audits and support Series A diligence and the data room.
Planning, Treasury, & Process
- Help build and maintain the group budget and rolling forecast with monthly variance analysis; own the short-term (13-week) cashflow forecast and track runway.
- Help keep the group model and investor five-year plan current and build unit-economics and KPI reporting.
- Support cash and treasury across entities and currencies; coordinate local tax and statutory filings and transfer-pricing documentation with country teams and advisors; strengthen controls and processes in Microsoft Dynamics 365.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a qualified accountant who has worked hands-on across multiple entities and is comfortable being the sole technical owner of the group numbers in a lean team. They are accurate, organized, and diligent, genuinely bothered by items that don’t reconcile, and keen to take on more as the group scales.
Essential
- Qualification: A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, together with a completed professional accounting qualification (CPA(K), ACCA, CA, or equivalent). Candidates who are finalists and close to completing their professional qualification may also be considered.
- Experience: around 6 – 9 years, including hands-on exposure to multi-entity consolidation and intercompany — having owned a consolidation end-to-end is a strong plus.
- Accounting: solid IFRS knowledge including revenue recognition, and confidence with multi-currency / FX translation.
- Close discipline: a demonstrable track record of hitting month-end close deadlines to a fixed calendar.
- Tools & rigor: strong Excel and a controls / audit-trail mindset; experience in leveraging AI
Desirable
- Experience booking partnership / revenue-share or JV income, ideally in fintech, lending or banking.
- US entity / US GAAP or Delaware parent-company exposure; Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365); FP&A and financial modelling; and experience across African markets in a high-growth or start-up environment.
Why This Role
- A central, visible role working shoulder-to-shoulder with the Group CFO and CEO through Series A.
- Ownership of JV / partnership revenue and hands-on group consolidation and IFRS from day one.
- A clear growth path toward a Head of Finance mandate as the finance team scales.
